Renting online from Foxes

In order to make our online rental process as simple as possible, we have had to limit some of the options we offer to walk-in customers.

If you have never rented from us before, please read “Our Rental Program” first, to learn how our in-store plan works. Then, if you are considering renting online, please note the following limitations:

  • For most instruments that rent for $19.00/month (new), we are only offering one monthly rate for those same instruments used. This rate is $17.00/month, which is our standard fee for “lightly used” instruments. For fractional sized violins and violas, we also offer a $15.00/month rate, for instruments that are a bit more used.
  • We do have a large selection of older instruments that rent for lower monthly rates. If you want one of the “bargain” rentals, we request that you come into the store, as there may be slight cosmetic issues with some of these instruments.
  • We require that our online customers sign up for our repair/replacement insurance, instead of the one-time damage deposit. This is the option most customers choose anyway, as the deposit does not cover damage or theft. However, the deposit option is still available for our walk-in customers.
  • We require that online rental customers agree to have their monthly payment automatically deducted from their credit/debit cards on file.
  • For now, we are not offering our advanced Level 2 and Level 3 instrument rentals online. We ask that you visit us in person for this service, so we can assist you in choosing the appropriate instrument for your playing level.
  • If you currently have a rental from Foxes and need to exchange it for another instrument, we ask that you visit us in person for this service. 

The rest of the rental plan is the same online as in-store. However, if your child is playing a string instrument and has not been sized by their teacher, you may want to use our String Instrument Sizing Chart. If you are still unsure about the size, we suggest you come into the store to rent your instrument and bring your child in for proper sizing.

You have 3 options available to obtain your online rental instrument:

  • In-store pickup – We will email you when your rental instrument is ready, and you may pick it up at your convenience with minimal contact.
  • Curbside pickup – We will email you when your rental instrument is ready. You can then reply with the date you would like to pick it up. Just give us a call when you are outside the store, and we will bring it out to your car.
  • UPS delivery to home – For smaller instruments, we can ship via UPS delivery to your home. As these are expensive items, delivery confirmation with signature is required.

We are unable to ship the following instruments, due to weight, size and shipping expense:

String basses
Baritones and Euphoniums
French horns
Tenor saxes and Bass clarinets
Percussion kits

We do not ship outside the DC metropolitan area. If you do not see your district listed, please give us a call.


IMPORTANT NOTE: Before completing your online rental, you must create a web account (if you are a current Foxes customer, your web account will be linked to your store account). Then, simply continue with the online rental process. You will then be contacted by Foxes, informing you that your rental is ready to be picked up or shipped!
